Uncomfortable Science

Uncomfortable Science is the brainchild of Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Lachlan Mitchell — a member of Laneous, Vulture St Tape Gang, Jazz Party and collaborator with Harry James Angus. The concept is radical in its simplicity: Mitchell directs an ever-changing line-up of musicians through an improvised jam with just a whiteboard and a pen, shifting and contorting the foundation of each song in real time with the unpredictable brilliance of a mad scientist.

The rotating cast of local heroes has featured members from Hiatus Kaiyote, Barney McAll, Sex On Toast, Simon Mavin, Paul Bender and countless other luminaries from Melbourne's extraordinary musical ecosystem. No two shows are alike — that's the whole point. Uncomfortable Science has developed a cult status in the Melbourne music scene that is only fully understood by witnessing them in full flight.
