Clever Austin

Clever Austin is the production alias of Perrin Moss — drummer and one quarter of Hiatus Kaiyote. Originally from the Blue Mountains, NSW, Moss is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist and producer who channels his ecstatic rhythmic sensibility into beat-driven, experimental music under the Clever Austin moniker.

His Found Heads series documents marathon day-long recording sessions with guest musicians. Found Heads Vol.1 (2021) features master percussionist Greg Sheehan, whose tambourine, gong and drum improvisations from a 2018 session at Moss's Kensington studio were processed and sculpted into five hypnotic pieces. Hiatus Kaiyote called it 'a batshit record'. It is, in the best possible way.

His Wondercore Island releases and collaborative output stretch through the same Melbourne ecosystem that produced Hiatus Kaiyote — playful, rhythmically advanced and deeply joyful.
